Irakli Kobakhidze – on February 8, 2024, was confirmed as the Prime Minister by the Parliament of Georgia.
Kobakhidze is an educated jurist, specializing in constitutional law. Since 2005, he has been lecturing at Tbilisi State University and holds the position of a full professor. In 2006, he was awarded a Doctor of Law degree from the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. He has been actively involved in Georgian politics since 2014-2015.
In 2015, Kobakhidze was appointed as the Secretary-General of the ruling party “Georgian Dream.” In the parliamentary elections of 2016, he was the third on the electoral list of “Georgian Dream” under the label of “Georgian Dream of Knowledge.” After the victory in the elections, he became the Speaker of the Parliament. From the time of his appointment as Speaker in 2019, he faced criticism and opposition, especially from the deputy Sergi Gavrilov.
After Giorgi Ivanishvili announced his second departure from politics in January 2021, Kobakhidze was chosen as the leader of “Georgian Dream of Knowledge.”
