A pre-trial hearing has been held in Tbilisi on what is one of Georgia’s most high-profile murder cases in years. Cannibalism has been named as a possible accompanying circumstance in the murder committed last October.
A 76-year-old was killed by her 19-year-old adopted daughter, the latter’s boyfriend and a friend. She was subjected to electric shocks, strangled and stabbed until she died, the prosecution says. Her body was dismembered and burnt at a city dump. One of the defendants, the boyfriend, told the court he had eaten some of the victim’s inner organs. He also said he had psychologically terrorized his girlfriend, the victim’s daughter, and had extorted 13,000 dollars from her.
In her turn, the 19-year-old has pled guilty too, saying her parents were abusive towards her.Due to her being underage, the third defendant has had her case looked into behind closed doors.
Two others were detained in the case, and cover-up charges have been brought against them.
