Tbilisi Zoo is breeding deer and releasing them into the wild in Algeti National Park — the first attempt to reintroduce this species in Georgia.
Since the deer at the zoo are used to prepared food, they will need additional nutritional support while adapting to their new habitat, especially in winter. They will also be given salt, as all hoofed animals require minerals for the development of antlers, hooves and strong bones. Over time, the deer will adapt to their new environment and will be able to find food independently.
