First President’s official car to be put up for auction in Armenia
The vehicle that once served the first President of Armenia, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, will be put up for auction. The aforesaid decision was made at the Armenian government’s session on 7 September. The State Property Management Department at the Armenian Government has been authorized to launch the ‘process of alienation of the Mercedes-Benz 500 SEL vehicle through a classic auction.’
A starting price of AMD 17 million (approximately USD 35 000) for the 1982 armored vehicle has been set. Bids will be held in the next three months. To participate in the bidding, a deposit equal to 5% of the opening bid price is required.
Levon Ter-Petrosyan was elected as the President of Armenia on 16 October, 1991, gaining the majority of votes (83.4%). The first President resigned on 3 February 1998. He returned to politics in 2008, this time as an opposition figure.
