Belarusian opposition leader found hanged in Kyiv
Oppositionist and the head of the public organization “Belarusian House in Ukraine” Vitaly Shishov, who disappeared on the morning of August 2, was found hanged in a Kyiv park.
According to Ukrainian TV channel Hromadske, Mr. Shishov’s body was found not far from his house.
Shishov disappeared after leaving the house for a run. His phone and personal belongings were seized from the scene. The police opened an investigation into the death as a homicide, specifically: premeditated murder.
Shishov’s colleagues state that he and his girlfriend were regularly followed by unknown individuals, including having their house staked out by nearby vehicles. Colleagues add that Shishov and his colleagues were often approached by people who asked questions about their activities in Ukraine and Belarus.
The Belarusian House in Ukraine is a public organization that helps Belarusians and all those who have fled to Ukraine from the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
Massive protests against the rigged presidential elections of Belarus in August 2020 became a pretext for extensive repression of the opposition by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.
