07.11.2017 Azerbaijan wins European Team Chess Championship 2017 JAMnews Baku Share Share Photo: Azertaj Agency Azerbaijani chess players have won the European Team Championship which took place on the Greek island of Crete. The Azerbaijani team ended in a draw with the Ukrainian one and finished the tournament with 14 points. The Russian team defeated the German national team, also receiving 14 points. Thanks to additional coefficients, the Azerbaijani team took first place. Russia took second, and Ukraine took third. The Azerbaijani national team has already won the European Championships twice, once in 2009 and again in 2013.
