Armenia’s oldest person is 115

There are 85 people aged 100 or over in Armenia. This data was made public in Armenia the day before the International Day for Older Persons, which is marked globally on 1 October. According to Anahit Gevorgyan, the Head of the Department for Elderly Affairs at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia, Armenia’s oldest person is a native of Yeranos village, Gegharkunik region.
Anahit Gevorgyan also reported that the majority of centenarians are women residing in the Tavush and Gagharkunik regions. They live on average six years longer than men.
In 1990, the UN General Assembly declared 1 October to be the International Day for Older Persons. Initially, this date was marked only in Europe, whereas starting from the end of 1990s, it has been celebrated in many countries worldwide, including Armenia.
