Tourists visiting Armenia vacationed in Yerevan, while locals spent their holidays in regional areas
Tourists who arrived in Armenia opted to spend their holidays in the capital, while locals preferred to go to regional areas.
Most of the tourists came from Russia. They preferred individual tours over group tours.
“I would say that 70% of the visitors were from Russia and that about 10% of them were from Iran,” said Hakob Hakobyan, the chairman of the Armenian Hotel Association.
Marina Kpryan, co-founder of the Tourism Association believes that Armenia is ready to host more tourists. However, in order to achieve this the country will have to actively promote itself and create more favorable conditions. For example, Georgia has more direct flights which are affordable, and this is particularly important for a tourist going on vacation.
