Local authorities have voted to allow the construction project despite protests

Batumi residents have come out against plans of the local authorities to allow five skyscrapers to be built in the historical part of Batumi.

Facebook page dedicated to Batumi city news became a forum for a discussion on the project – local residents are preparing a petition demanding that the central authorities intervene in the dispute between the city government and local residents.

The city government of Batumi voted for the project to build five high-rise buildings on July 16 despite protests by activists. According to the project, the new buildings should be erected not far from the yacht club and the Batumi chacha fountain.
