The percentage of students receiving a state scholarship for education in Azerbaijan is decreasing every year.
According to the State Statistics Committee’s official data, 163 800 students are attending universities in Azerbaijan in this current academic year, whereas in the year 2000 the number was 119 700.
At the same time however, the percentage of students receiving state scholarships for education has been decreasing every year. At this point in time only 36.3% of those studying full-time at public institutions of higher education are receiving scholarships. In 2000, this number was 45%, and in 2015, 37.3% of students received a scholarship.
The amount of the scholarship for university students in Azerbaijan depends on their academic performance. At Bachelor’s degree level, a student’s scholarship can vary from 50 to 95 manats per month (25 to 47.5 euros) depending on their grades.
The ‘presidential’ scholarship is 120 manats (60 euros) per month.
