Moldovan President pays over EUR 4 000 per day for hotel resort accommodation
The Moldovan President Igor Dodon and his family are currently on vacation, staying in a luxury hotel on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, with prices starting at EUR 4 000 per day. However, his salary is less than EUR 700.
The Moldovan ZdG newspaper reported on the aforesaid, qualifying it as a sign of corruption.
The President posted a photo on his Facebook page, taken on a plane, featuring him with his wife and youngest son, specifying that he had taken his family on vacation to the Turkish resort town of Antalya, on the Mediterranean Sea.
As ZdG newspaper found out, the President’s family was accommodated in a luxury seaside hotel, with prices starting at EUR 4 000.
The President, however, didn’t specify how long his vacation would last. Later on, he made another FB post, saying that the ZdG data was wrong, adding that he did not intend to discuss the issue, and that his family had been offered an opportunity to have a vacation in Turkey by the honorary consul of the Republic of Moldova in Antalya.
The ZdG newspaper immediately contacted the honorary consul, who said, she was unaware of the President’s vacation and hadn’t even communicated with the President for a month.
Igor Dodon has been holding the post of President since December 2016. His monthly salary is approximately EUR 636, which means that he would have managed to earn just EUR 3 500 within five months of being in office.
It’s not the first time that the Moldovan leader demonstrates a taste for luxury resorts. Earlier, he was spotted in Sochi, Iran, as well as in Breuil-Cervinia, one of the most fashionable resorts in Italy, accompanied by his relatives and body guards.
