The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has made a decision to start vaccination of children over 16 years old – but not for all and only with the Pfizer vaccine.
According to the press service of the ministry, children will be vaccinated in exceptional cases. It is noted that when making this decision, the Azerbaijani authorities took into account the current epidemiological situation, as well as the official recommendations of the European Medicines Agency and the US Food and Drug Administration to administer the Pfizer vaccine to adolescents.
Vaccination of a person over 16 and under 18 requires written permission from one of the parents indicating the reason and the written consent of both parents, the Ministry of Health said.
Only one medical institution in Baku, Bakı Sağlamlıq Mərkəzi, will be vaccinated for adolescents.
Like all other citizens of the country, adolescents must sign up for the vaccine in the specially designed portal – randevu.its.gov.az.
The Ministry of Health also added that citizens of the country aged 16-18, studying abroad and suffering from chronic diseases, will be vaccinated.
Social media reaction
This message became the subject of discussion in the Azerbaijani segment of social media. Here are some typical comments:
“Yes, I myself have not been vaccinated. And all the more, I will not allow my child to be vaccinated with these incomprehensible vaccines”.
“And why does my child need a vaccine, even if he will study abroad? Indeed, in the country where he goes, people under 18 do not require a certificate of vaccination”.
“Good decision. Hopefully, children over 12 years old will be vaccinated soon. Anyway, we can’t get away from the coronavirus vaccine anywhere. This is a disaster for the entire planet”.
Vaccination in Azerbaijan
Four types of vaccines are available in Azerbaijan – Sinovac (China), Sputnik V (Russia), AstraZeneca (South Korea) and Pfizer (USA-Germany).
According to information on the morning of September 7, 28.8% of the total population were vaccinated with both doses of one of the vaccines available in the country, 43.6% were vaccinated with only one dose.
