Armenian Weightlifters Win 11 Medals at European Championships

The European Weightlifting Championships have come to an end in Croatia’s Split, with Armenian athletes winning 11 medals.
Simon Martirosyan won gold in the weight category of 105 kg and became the champion of Europe. In the biathlon, the Armenian weightlifter successfully lifted 414kg (184 + 230) outperforming his rivals.
In the super heavyweight category (+105kg), Armenia was represented by two athletes: the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Rio, Gor Minasyan, and Ruben Aleksanyan.
Gor Minasyan won the title of vice-champion of Europe with the result of 446kg (211 + 235) in the biathlon. Ruben Aleksanyan won the bronze medal with the result of 434kg(190 + 244).
Gor also took the small silver in a snatch (211kg), and Ruben – the small bronze in the jerk (244kg).
Members of the women’s team are also among the prize-winners. 21-year-old athlete, Tatev Akopyan, won the bronze medal in the 90kg weight category with the result of 230kg (105 + 125), also taking the small bronze in the 105kg snatch.
Another female athlete, Sonya Poghosyan, won a bronze medal in a double-event and the small silver medal in the 126kg jerk.
