Are Baku pubs ready for an influx of Brits?

Football officials hope pubs have time to correct shortcomings for the European Championship

“Some city pubs were not ready for the influx of fans from England. They did not work at the proper level. Some ran out of beer. I hope that during the European Championship these moments will be taken into account, said Elkhan Mammadov, Secretary General of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA).

Mammadov’s comment concerns the Europa League match, which was held in Baku in May 2019.

According to Mammadov, 38,000 foreign fans visited the city in three days.

In the summer of 2020, four matches of the European Football Championship will be held in Baku, and the AFFA representative hopes that by that time the pubs will have time to prepare.
