The Trump Tower project was presented at Mtatsminda Park in Tbilisi on the evening of 15 September. The 62-storey skyscraper will be part of the Downtown Tbilisi development planned on the site of the former hippodrome.
The event was attended by representatives of the Georgian government and ruling party, the president of the National Bank, the chairman of the Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, the prosecutor general, business representatives and other invited guests.
Hundreds of people attended the presentation, leaving some guests standing throughout the event.
The event also featured a video address by Eric Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organization and son of US President Donald Trump.
“When we undertake projects, the overall climate is very important to us. We build the best buildings in countries where there is a welcoming environment. We want to have outstanding buildings in different countries around the world. My father supports this,” Eric Trump said.
The presentation featured speeches by executives of the companies involved in the construction of Trump Tower, as well as government representatives.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the project would receive $2 billion in investment. The complex will have a total area of approximately 600,000 square metres.
Kobakhidze said Trump Tower will have 62 floors and stand 282 metres tall. Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2031, with the entire complex due for completion in 2033.
“This is a bold project that will give Tbilisi a new appeal, putting it on a par with the world’s leading urban centres,” Kobakhidze said.
Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said the project “will create new jobs from day one”, facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise, introduce modern international standards, and “take cooperation between Georgian and international companies to a new level”.
During the presentation, government representatives and executives of companies involved in the project symbolically pressed a red button.
A drone show was held at the site, with the words “Trump Tower Tbilisi” appearing in the sky. The evening ended with a fireworks display.
Project announced in April
Information about plans to build a Trump Tower in Tbilisi was released in April 2026. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report on the project.
According to the newspaper, a 70-storey skyscraper is planned for Tbilisi, with the design being developed by US architecture firm Gensler.
The Trump Organization’s partners are named as Georgian companies Archi Group, Biograpi Living, Bloxi Group and Finvest Georgia, as well as US-based The Sapir Organization.
According to The Trump Organization, once completed, the building will be the tallest in Tbilisi. The complex is planned to include luxury residential apartments, retail space and restaurants.
The organisation described the project as the first official use of the Trump brand in the region.
The exact location was not initially disclosed. The Trump Organization only said the skyscraper would be built in a “prestigious location” overlooking Tbilisi’s Central Park.
Local media immediately linked the project to a planned mixed-use development on the site of the former hippodrome. A development plan for the area has already been approved, providing for seven high-rise buildings. The tallest will be 79 storeys.
Central Park Avenue, the company developing the area, is linked to Wissol Group and Biograpi Living, which are involved in the Trump Tower project.
What The Wall Street Journal writes
On 13 September, The Wall Street Journal published an extensive article about the Trump Tower project in Tbilisi.
The headline was: “The Latest Spot for a Trump Tower: An Ex-Soviet Republic Moving Closer to Russia” In the subheadline, the newspaper highlighted the fact that the land designated for the skyscraper in Tbilisi was acquired from a fund linked to billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is under US sanctions.
The WSJ examines the project not only as a real estate development, but also in the context of deteriorating Georgia-US relations and Georgia’s domestic political situation.
The newspaper writes that despite a significant deterioration in relations between Tbilisi and Washington in recent years, one of the largest new projects involving a brand associated with the current US president is being developed in Georgia.
A significant part of the WSJ article focuses on the deal for the land designated for the project. According to the publication, the Trump Tower project provided a financial benefit to the family of Bidzina Ivanishvili, who was placed under US sanctions in late 2024.
According to the WSJ, in 2023 the developers agreed to purchase the land from a fund controlled by the Ivanishvili family, with the deal valued at up to $85 million.
