Igor Strelkov (Girkin), the former Defense Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) was found guilty and has to pay USD 20 million to each of the MH-17 victims’ relatives.
Strelkov has already stated that he does not recognize the ruling and does not intend to pay: “If I am made to pay somehow I will have to live another thousand years,” he said, obviously meaning that his assets are insufficient.
Malaysian Airlines Boeing MH-17 heading to Kuala-Lumpur from Amsterdam crashed over the Donetsk region on 17 July 2014. An international investigation was done which later concluded that it was hit by a Russian Buk anti-aircraft missile. However, the Russian authorities refuses to accept responsibility.
