32 bicycle parking racks and 2 bicycle trails to be made in Tbilisi
Tbilisi’s Mayoral office has allocated GEL 50 thousand for the installation of 32 bicycle parking racks located throughout the various districts in the capital. The tender for the project was announced on 10 May.
The construction of 2 cycling trails is to be completed by the end of 2017. The first 8 km long trail will connect Deda Ena Park with Vakhushti Bridge, passing along the right bank of the river Mtkvari, and then back to Deda Ena Park along the left bank. A relatively smaller track is planned in Digomi, on King Mirian Street.
Cycling trails will be created on the sidewalks of those locations, accompanied by street drainage wells, installation of traffic lights, mounting of ramps, and pavement repairs.
Construction of other cycling trails has not been scheduled as yet. The Mayor’s Office indicated that it would consider the construction of trails in other locations should there be sufficient demand for it.
The project is a joint effort implemented by Tbilisi Mayor’s Office and Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia.
