The Russian President`s advisor, Vladislav Surkov, arrived in Sukhum and met with president Raul Khadjimba.
The issues on the agenda “led us to believe that the work is being done in a positive mode”, Khadjimba told the press after the meeting.
Khadjimba and Surkov emphasized the following results and future goals:
Russian investments in Abkhazia
Vladislav Surkov noted that Russian investments in Abkhazia follow the documents signed earlier by the different sides.
“Political stability is helpful for the development of the country,” he said.
“The next stage of the Russian investment program has been launched, money is coming in, documentation on all projects have been completed, and many of them relate to infrastructure, which I consider important for the development of tourism and industry,” Surkov added.
Moscow has approved investments worth USD 17 million for hotels, food production and agriculture, Surkov said. “We cooperate well.”
Cooperation in the social sphere
“Our countries’ relations have reached another level of integration. Integration in the social sphere has intensified, and the citizens of Abkhazia have seen it reflected in higher pensions and other social payments,” Vladislav Surkov noted.
Cooperation in the military sphere and border control
The process of establishing a joint army group in accordance with the security treaty was assessed by Surkov as a ‘very serious step’.
Vladislav Surkov also visited the National Library and school №3 which has been renovated as part of the Russian investment plan.
The treaty on alliance and strategic partnership was signed by the Russian and Abkhazian presidents on 24 November 2014.
Vladislav Surkov`s previous visit to Abkhazia was in July 2016.
