RFE/RL might have to shut down Georgian, North Caucasus services
Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty may have to shut down its service in Georgia and the North Caucasus next year.
The proposal came directly from US President Donald Trump’s administration.

Another service that would be targeted and terminated would be the Tatar-Bashkir service (Russia).
Two bureaus in the Balkans, in Montenegro and Macedonia, are also at risk of being defunded.
The proposal put forward by Trump’s administration calls for a reduction of almost $40 million: from $124 million in 2019 to $87 million in 2020. The final decision is up to the US Congress.
