Most restrictions to be lifted in Georgia
Most Covid-19 restrictions will soon be lifted in Georgia.
However, the curfew from 21:00 to 5:00 will remain in effect for the time being.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced the news following a meeting of the interdepartmental coordination council – the body responsible for overseeing the country’s Covid-19 response.
The decision to lift the restrictions was made despite the fact that even initial vaccinations in Georgia have yet to begin.
Mountain resorts
Hotels will open from February 25 in ski resorts, but in compliance with epidemiological standards.
Ropeways and lifts will start operating from March 8.
Restaurants
From March 1, indoor seating in restaurants will open in Batumi – currently, only open cafes and restaurants have been able to work.
In the rest of the country, restaurants will open beginning March 8.
Restrictions will continue to apply on weekends – cafes and restaurants across the country will remain closed.
Sports and fitness
Gyms will resume work on March 15.
Transport
Intercity public transport will start operating on February 25.
Kindergartens
Both state and private kindergartens will open on March 1. 20 percent of employees will be tested every two weeks.
Higher education institutions
From March 1, higher and professional educational institutions will be able to resume classes necessary for the practical training of students – for example, laboratory work or trainings for medical students. However, exams will be held remotely.
On March 15, face-to-face lectures will resume directly in classrooms.
Conferences
From March 1, conferences and trainings can be held.
Museums and Libraries
Museums and libraries will open on March 1.
Cultural and entertainment establishments
From March 15, theaters, sports clubs, professional vocal or dance ensembles resume face-to-face rehearsals.
From April 1, their work will be fully restored – they will be able to conduct any performances in the presence of spectators.
Cinemas were not included in the list of organizations for which restrictions are lifted. It is not yet known when exactly they will start working.
Shops
From March 8, shops, shopping centers and fairs will start working on weekends. In the meantime, they are only open on weekdays.
