Islamic Games’ official opening ceremony held in Baku

A magnificent opening ceremony of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games was held at the Baku-based Olympic Stadium on 12 May.
The ceremony program included theatrical compositions reflecting key historical moments of the East as well as the Muslim world. Over 5,000 people from 31 countries were engaged in the ceremony with stage equipment, produced in 8 countries, being employed. The opening ceremony was staged by the British company in charge of the 2012 London Olympics launch ceremony.
At the end of the event the audience were offered colorful fireworks. The words ‘Baku-2017’ were lit up by the firecrackers in the night sky over the Olympic Stadium.
The Azerbaijani President – Ilham Aliyev, Vice-President – Meriban Aliyeva, officials from foreign countries, international organizations and federations, as well as other VIP guests attended the opening ceremony.Not only could the stadium visitors, but also people from across four continents witness this spectacular event, which was aired live.
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games are underway in Baku from 12 May until 22 May 2017.
20 sports – including 17 Olympic and 3 non-Olympic sports disciplines, are included in the event program.
More than 3,000 athletes from 54 countries around the world are participating in the Games.
