Famed Armenian news agency marks 100 year anniversary
Armenia’s famed ARMENPRESS news agency is marking its 100 year anniversary today. In connection with this, the outlet is receiving congratulations from famous political and cultural figures throughout Armenia.
The history of ARMENPRESS
The Armenian Telegraph Agency (later ARMENPRESS) was founded on 18 December 1918 by decision of the parliament of the First Armenian Republic. Now, ARMENPRESS is a closed joint stock company that belongs to the government and is the most-cited media outlet in Armenia. It is published in four languages (Armenian, Russian, English and Arabic) and has eleven news feeds.

Congratulations
The news agency was congratulated by many famous politicians and cultural figures. Among them was the head of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan. He considers the century-long history of ARMENPRESS to be a common treasure:
“The ARMENPRESS news agency has claimed and confidently maintains its title as a reliable source of information. It is not by accident that the ARMENPRESS news agency has been selected as the official agency to provide coverage for the largest-scale international event in our history: the Francophone Forum in Yerevan. We can confidently state that our collaboration will continue.”
The agency was also congratulated by the head of Armenia’s National Security Service, Artur Vanetsyan, who noted that “in conditions where situations and events are rapidly changing, the role and significance of ARMENPRESS is growing even further”.
ARMENPRESS was also congratulated by its journalistic colleagues and by other news agencies. In particular, the online publication Tert.am emphasized in its congratulatory message that the hundred-year existence of ARMENPRESS on the media market is, in-and-of-itself, a metric for its activities, attesting to the quality of its work:
“We send our colleagues our wholehearted wishes … that they will find themselves in the necessary place at the necessary time and meet the demands of the moment.”
We at JAMnews also congratulate our colleagues at ARMENPRESS on their anniversary.
