Alaverdi announced Armenia’s most polluted city
The Armenian State Statistical Committee has reported that Alaverdi is the most polluted city in all of Armenia.
The city is located in the northeast of the northern Lori region, 167 kilometres from Yerevan. It has a population of 16,600 people.
Although the city is located inside the gorge of the Debed river, the ‘dustiness’ indicator exceeds the norm by 1.8 times.

Sulfur dioxide is one of the main pollutant gases in the earth’s atmosphere, and in Alaverdi, it is twice as high as normal.
