The cities of Marneuli, Bolnisi and Lentekhi and four villages in the coastal Kobuleti district have already been quarantined.

Starting April 15 Tbilisi and the next three largest cities in Georgia – Kutaisi, Batumi and Rustavi – will be quarantined.

The state of emergency will likely be extended past its initially proposed date of April 18 to May 10.

From March 16 to May 14, a state of emergency was declared in Armenia in order to avoid an even greater spread of coronavirus.

Since March 25, a strict restriction on the movement of people has been introduced. Violations are monitored by the police.

However, since April 14, the authorities have begun to partially mitigate the restrictions.

Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia says the Georgian president will soon address the parliament with a proposal to extend the state of emergency until May 10.

There are new cases of coronavirus infection in the village of Leghva in the coastal Kobuleti district. This is one of the four villages that were quarantined on April 12th. One of the infected is a 9-month-old baby.

COVID-19 was found in five employees of the Tbilisi Medical Institute, the clinic was closed for quarantine on April 12. According to the Formula TV channel, a clergyman became the source of infection. As far as we know, this clergyman was supposed to serve in one of the churches of Tbilisi on Palm Sunday on April 12, but he was hospitalized the day before.

Churches in Georgia are crowded due to Easter holidays, despite strict isolation requirements and the state of emergency. People in churches receive communion from the same vessel. The public is strongly demanding the government intervene and close churches.

Two private clinics in Tbilisi have been placed under quarantine, where a patient and a doctor became infected.

The coronavirus was confirmed in one of the doctors at the Tbilisi Medical Institute, the clinic staff and patients who underwent treatment there are being examined. The clinic has been temporarily closed.

The Georgian-Dutch clinic in Tbilisi is also closed, where a 72-year-old woman has been confirmed as infected with the coronavirus. She was admitted on April 6 with a diagnosis of acute heart failure. The coronavirus rapid test was negative, but now her husband has come down with the coronavirus. The second test of the patient confirmed her coronavirus.

A full check of staff and patients has begun.

A young woman, a resident of the village of Gomi in the Khashuri district, tested positive for the virus. She is an interpreter and had contact with foreigners. She and her little child were taken to the hospital, villagers are undergoing thermal testing.

Population testing continues in four villages of the Kobuleti district, which were quarantined on April 12. More than 1,600 people have been tested. 13 of them have a temperature, while there are no new confirmed cases.
