Two fires broke out in Armenian forests
Two fires have broken out in Armenia recently.
A huge grassy area in the vicinity of the Artavan community, Vayots Dzor Province, caught fire three days ago. Rescuers have been trying to put out the fire up until now.
As journalists were told by the Armenian Emergency Situations Ministry, about 400-500 sq.m. area is currently on fire. According to the Ministry, trenches have been dug to bring the fire under control.
Karen Hakobyan, 43, a head of the Artavan community, is suspected of starting the fire in the forest. As a former community head told the mass media, Karen Hakobyan is a veteran of the Artsakh war, and a disabled person with three children who is facing hard living conditions.
According to the former head, the fire was started by sparks that ignited after Hakobyan tried to replace a car muffler, setting the grass ablaze.
There have been reports today that another fire broke out in the ‘Khosrov Forest’ reserve area. Firefighting teams have been dispatched to the area to put out the fire.
