The Baku Transport Agency has allocated AZN 47 million 924 thousand (approximately USD 29 million) towards the purchase of 300 new buses. The order was signed by President Ilham Aliyev.
As of 1 August, the fees for using public transport have increased by about one and a half times. Many have emphasized on social networks that the price increase does not correlate to the quality of the service. In particular, most buses, even those in central Baku, are old, run down and without air conditioners.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technology has stated that, in light of the tariff increases, public transport companies are obliged to ensure that their fleets are in good order: old buses are to be repaired, and general services needs to be improved upon.
