Tension remains high on Karabakh line of contact

According to the Armenian media, the Karabakh Defense Ministry press service has reported that in the early hours of 7 July the Azerbaijani armed forces broke the ceasefire by firing at Armenian troops using firearms of different calibers, a howitzer D-30, a light field gun D-44, mortars and grenade launchers of different calibers.

According to media reports three servicemen have been injured as a result of the attack, and measures were taken to counter the Azerbaijani actions.

According to a statement made by the Karabakh Defense Ministry, the military and political leadership of Azerbaijan is fully responsible for this incident.

On 7 July, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry came out with an urgent statement regarding the attack on the Armenian positions along the frontline.

“In order to prevent further diversions and to avenge the deaths of some members of the civil population in the village of Alkhanly, on 7 July the Azerbaijani army launched a planned attack and fired at the combat ready forces and the defense positions of the Armenian army battalion.

According to preliminary information, our forces’ actions which were taken in the direction of Fizuli-Khodzhavend resulted in substantial losses in manpower, loss of several military vehicles and the complete destruction of military infrastructure objects.

The Defense Ministry report also stated by quoting verified sources, that the Armenian as well as Azerbaijani forces were placed on full alert.
