not served in Georgian in Batumi
The National Competition Agency of Georgia found that 11 catering establishments in Batumi provide service only in foreign languages. An investigation has been launched into a possible violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
In particular, we are talking about menus compiled in a non-state (non-Georgian) language. Also, as part of the monitoring conducted by the relevant service, it was confirmed that due to ignorance of the state language in catering establishments, customers are often denied services in Georgian. Based on the information provided, it is established that the number of such objects may increase.
The National Competition Agency emphasizes that, in accordance with the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights, the provision of services in the Georgian language on the territory of Georgia is mandatory.
“The National Competition Agency, within the powers granted by law, begins to study the issue in the case of a specific appeal, if it has information that, as a result of the actions of a particular trader, the rights of a consumer group are violated or may be violated, and their interests have been harmed or may be damaged, ”the information released by the agency says.
The agency also publishes an application form that can be completed by any person in case of violation of their rights: https://gnca.gov.ge/index.php?m=401
