Spanish police say they have killed five suspected terrorists in the town of Cambrils, located 135 kilometers south-west of Barcelona, BBC reports. Seven people, including a police officer, were wounded when a car was driven into them early on Friday. The attackers’ vehicle overturned and when the men got out they were quickly fired upon by police. Police reported that they were wearing explosive belts, which were later safely detonated by controlled explosions. Thirteen people died and 80 were hurt when a van plowed into the crowds in the Las Ramblas area of Barcelona on Thursday, injuring 16 people who are now in critical condition. The authorities also stated that the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils are linked to an explosion at a house on Wednesday evening in the town of Alcanar that left one person dead. Spain’s PM Mariano Rajoy described it as a ‘jihadist attack’.
