RF Prime Minister, Dmirty Medvedev, stated about granting Russian citizens an opportunity to travel to Armenia by internal passports, when summarizing the results of talks with his Armenian counterpart, Karen Karapetyan, on January 24.
“In this regard, a relevant document has been just signed that will further intensify cooperation in such important areas as humanitarian contacts,” Medvedev pointed out.
Armenian PM, Karen Karapetyan, in turn, expressed hope that this decision would promote cultural relations and people-to-people contacts, as well as would make for tourism development. “I think that Armenia, as a tourist country, is underestimated by the Russian citizens.”
Armenian press evaluated the visit outcome as ‘0:1’ for Russia: Russia no longer views Armenia as a foreign country. ‘The Air Defense System has been integrated, the combined troops have been set up and now time has come to unite the Armenian and Russian passport control. The next step will probably be unification of the Armenian and Russian citizenship. Why not?’
