Russia’s State Duma approved on third and final reading a bill banning money transfers from Russia to Ukraine, in response to Kiev’s earlier sanctions against Russian-owned banks.
Any country that moves to restrict the functioning of Russian payment systems and remittance transfer providers on its territory will get a similar response from Russia, the bill says, meaning residents of the country won’t be able to receive non-bank transfers, including electronic wires, from Russia.
Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko signed off on the national security and defense council’s decision to impose sanctions on a number of Russian banks and stop their Ukrainian affiliates from moving capital abroad.
The sanctions are for one year and target such banks as Sberbank, BiEc Bank, VTB Bank, BM Bank.
