Prime Minister of Georgia: “We have fought three times already - enough"

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili expressed his condolences to the families of Georgian fighters killed in Ukraine at a government meeting on December 5 and again referred to the “war party” [opposition party the United National Movement – JAMnews]. According to the prime minister, the government is doing everything it can to retrieve the bodies of those fallen in battle.
The government and embassies are doing their best, and the government will bear the cost of transporting and burying them with military honors, “without any shouting, without any PR,” Garibashvili said.
“We have fought three times already since we gained independence, that is enough. We want to unite our country in a peaceful way; this is a reasonable policy, this is a national policy, and not by war, and even more so not by involving our people in wars that cannot be won. Once again I address these populist hypocrites,” Garibashvili said.

Garibashvili meant that certain parties are trying to derive political capital from the current situation. The Prime Minister also said that as a result of this reasonable policy, Georgia avoided opening a second front:
“I want to tell our society once again that, despite numerous attempts to open a ‘second front’ in Georgia, as a result of our reasonable policy it was avoided. Imagine if these people were in power today. They are from there, from the opposition, trying to unleash a war, to open a second front. If you imagine for a moment that these people were in power today, they would turn Georgia into a training ground.”
Khatia Dekanoidze, a member of the United National Movement, believes that Irakli Garibashvili insults the Georgian heroes fighting in Ukraine:
“Garibashvili’s statements are not new. This is the propaganda of the authorities, which coincides with the propaganda of Russia and the Kremlin. What hurts me the most as a person, as a citizen of Georgia, is that the men who are fighting for the freedom of Ukraine and Georgia, the men who were under siege in Bakhmut, directly say that they are fighting on someone’s orders. It is unthinkable for Garibashvili to sacrifice himself for the sake of freedom. So his insults of these men is the most disgusting. He insults these fighters because it is necessary for the internal political struggle.”
