Electricity was cut off in most of the cities of Azerbaijan in the evening at about 1 am on 3 July. Service was restored towards the morning for most consumers. Mobile operators continued to work and people actively corresponded on social networks. Judging by these reports, there was practically no light in the entire country.
In the morning on 3 July, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan and the Azerenerji electricity company made a joint statement about an incident that took place at the Mingachevir thermal power plant. This is the largest power plant in the country which, as it turns out, solely supplies the capital, and almost all other cities.
“In connection with the hot weather in the country, the demand for electricity increased dramatically within a few days, which led to problems with electricity supply.
Currently, the supply of electricity in the country is gradually recovering. Electricity has already been restored in a number of regions. In the near future, electricity supply will be restored in other places,” the statement read.
