Yerevan expecting high temperatures

Yerevan is in for extra hot weather in the coming days, with temperatures expecting to reach above 40°C by day and almost 30°C at night.
“The temperature in Yerevan on 29 June will reach 40°C, and from 1 July upwards of 41°C. No precipitation is expected for the next five days across the whole country,” said Gagik Surenyan, head of the Meteorological Forecast Department at the Hydrometeorological Centre of Armenia.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations also warned that, apart from the heat, people will also be exposed to ultraviolet rays, and recommended that people not remain in the sun for too long.
If forecasts are true, institutions, both private and public, will be forced to provide employees with additional breaks and ensure appropriate conditions for work.
According to the Labor Code of Armenia, ‘special breaks should be provided if the work is carried out under conditions where the temperature is above 40°C or below -10°C’.
In previous years, many residents of both Yerevan and regional areas complained that weather forecasters do not report the real temperature. According to many, this is done so that the work day would not be shortened.
