Georgian judokas win three gold medals at St Petersburg tournament
Three Georgian judokas, Beka Gviniashvili (-90kg), Varlam Liparteliani (-100kg) and Guram Tushishvili (+100kg) won the final tournament at the World Judo Masters series which came to an end in St Petersburg.
Gviniashvili met with the 2015 South Korean World Champion Dongan Gwak in the final, winning a clean victory by ippon (a full point scored). Guram Tushishvili, who went up against the Brazilian world leader David Moura also won his match by ippon. Liparteliani’s adversary was Michael Korrel from The Netherlands, and the strongest judoka in the world in the ‘up to 100kg’ weight category.
Georgian judokas won a total of five medals in St Petersburg. On the first day of the competition, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (-73kg) won silver, while Vazha Margvelashvili (-66) took third place on the podium.
