Baku marathon participants try to ‘beat the wind’
Held in Baku for the 2nd time already, the marathon, under the slogan ‘beat the Wind’, started at Flag Square and finished 4.5 hours later at the Baku Olympic Stadium. Approximately 13,000 people, including about 1,000 foreigners from 10 different countries participated in the race, which is almost double that of last year.
Asya Abdullayeva, 81, a Baku resident, was the eldest runner.
Turkish nationals won the race. Veysi Aslan did the best among the men, and Yayla Kylyj among the women. The winners were handed over prizes, medals and certificates courtesy of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Many renowned public figures, including the government Vice Premier, three ministers and both daughters of the Azerbaijani leader, participated in the marathon.
