“4 members of the terrorist group, that was preparing terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan’, were killed in course of a special operation, conducted by the Azerbaijani State Security Service in Baku, on January 31 – Azerbaijani State Security Service (SSS) press release reads.
According to the State Security Service press office, the terrorists were killed after they had offered armed resistance to the law-enforcers, using guns and assault rifle.
“The SSS received a report that a group of individuals, affiliated with the terrorist organizations operating beyond Azerbaijan, had procured explosive substances and weapons and was going to carry out terrorist attacks in different places across the country. After conducting the investigation the aforesaid reports have been confirmed.”
The SSS press office reported the names of those, killed in course of the special operation.
“A special operation was conducted on January 31 as part of the urgent measures aimed to arrest the Azerbaijani national, suspected of preparing particularly grave crimes on religious extremism grounds: M.Ulubekov, nicknamed ‘Abu Hafsa’; G.Damirov, nicknamed ‘Abdulqarib’; F.Sadygov, nicknamed ‘Abdulhalid’ and T.Almammadov and S. Mammadov, nicknamed ‘Abdullah’.
During the special operation, M.Ulubekov, G.Damirov, T.Almammadov and S. Mammadov, started firing from the assault rifles and guns. Since the aforesaid individuals offered the armed resistance, the special unit had to eliminate the group using service firearms, as prescribed by the law. F. Sadygov was arrested as a suspect.
“The operative-investigative activities continue now,” the SSS statement reads.
Azerbaijani State Security Service was set up on December 14, 2015, after disbandment of the former National Security Ministry.
