Baku has sent a letter of protest to Washington D.C. over the illegal trip of US citizen of Armenian origin Dan Bilzerian to Karabakh.
Dan Bilzerian is known in Armenia as the King of Instagram.
Bilzerian is a poker player, actor and the son of a wealthy businessman. Together with his brother Adam Bilzerian and model Suelyn Medeiros, he came to Armenia at the end of August. During the visit he acquired an Armenian passport and registered with the armed forces of Armenia.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmet Hajiyev says that the letter of protest was handed to US chargé d’affaires William Gill in Azerbaijan. The letter states that Bilzerian violated the law ‘On the State Border of the Republic of Azerbaijan’ when he entered Karabakh through Armenia.
Nagorno-Karabakh is an autonomous republic of Azerbaijan which came under Armenian control in 1991 as a result of military conflict, and unilaterally declared its independence which is not recognised by any state in the world, including Armenia.
The letter states that, while in Karabakh, Dan Bilzerian was engaged in the propaganda of the illegal regime, purchased illegal firearms and opened fire on positions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan has launched a criminal case on this matter and applied for Bilzerian to be placed on an international wanted list. Baku hopes that Washington D.C. will take measures to ensure similar events do not reoccur in the future.
