Armenian National Archive buys documents from Georgia
Armenian documents that are preserved in the foreign archives are in a ‘deplorable condition’, and there are numerous Armenian archival documents in Georgia. The National Archives of Armenia is cooperating with their Georgian colleagues, working to ensure transportation of those documents to Armenia, but the problem is that they have to be purchased – Amatuni Virabyan, the Armenian National Archives Director, reported.
The documents preserved in Tbilisi reflect the stages of modern and most recent history, namely, the period of the First Republic of Armenia and some other important events.
“We have good, high-level cooperation with the Georgian archive. But Georgia works based on the following principle: the documents are offered for sale. We buy them, and get the copies. One page is sold for GEL 4. So, it turns out that we should pay GEL 75 (USD 30) per 30 pages,” the Armenian National Archives Director explained.
