The “Month of Women”, which started with International Women’s Day on 8 March, is coming to an end in Armenia with the Day of Motherhood and Beauty on 7 April. That is how locals call this month, both seriously and jokingly.
Since 1995, this church celebration has been listed as a public holiday. On 7 April, the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (The announcement by the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and give birth to Jesus Christ). In all Armenian churches a special service, of blessing mothers, is performed.
The Yerevan Municipality, as usual, prepared wonderful surprises for women and girls, including female visitors arriving at Zvartnots International Airport. Since the morning, they had been welcomed with flowers and greeting cards.
Throughout the day, various festive events are arranged for women in the streets of Yerevan and in Moscow metro station. In downtown Yerevan, an auto-motor show is organized on Freedom Square, while North Avenue will host a concert with people’s favorite artists including a gala concert in Charles Aznavour Square (named after the Armenian-French singer) to celebrate the day.
Today in the evening, the main square of Yerevan will host the solemn ceremony of launching the singing fountains, a famous landmark of the Armenian capital.
Festive events dedicated to the Day of Motherhood and Beauty will also be organized in all regions of the country.
