Armenia achieves certain success in fight against corruption
‘In 2016, Armenia made certain progress in the fight against corruption,’ reads the report from GRECO – The Group of States Against Corruption of the Council of Europe.
Last year, Armenia successfully performed all tasks related to criminalization of corruption offences and transparency of political funding – GRECO concluded. However, it has failed to implement GRECO’s recommendations related to the prevention of corruption among MPs, and only partially (by 43%) implemented the organization’s proposals on the prevention of corruption among judges.
Meanwhile, the Armenian National Assembly has passed in the first reading a draft law on setting up an Anti-Corruption Commission. All MPs, be it representatives from the opposition or the ruling majority groups, have unanimously voted for setting up the Anti-Corruption Commission. Unlike former commissions, the new one will include opposition members too.
