Serezha Tadevosyan, a first-degree disabled, has been deprived of poverty benefits by the social service staff. According to the Armenian media reports, the reason for the aforesaid was that the man refused to deregister from house his children, who are currently residing in Russia. The matter is that deregistration of relatives will reduce the scores required for allocation of poverty benefits.
Meanwhile, Artashes Yegoryan, the head of the district department of Gyumri community social assistance service – ‘Gyumri-1’, has denied the aforesaid report, noting that Serezha Tadevosyan was deprived of the poverty benefits amounting to AMD18,000 (less than US$40) due to his failure to show up for registration in September 2016.
Under the procedure in effect, each citizen who receives benefit should undergo a mandatory annual registration, otherwise he/she will not be eligible for social services. As Yegoryan pointed out, if Tadevosyan shows up and produces relevant documents, he will be restituted his benefits.
A story of Serezha Tadevosyan was actively discussed as early as a few months ago. One of the Facebook users published a photo of the taxi driver from Gyumri and shared his story.
