We asked people on the streets of Tbilisi which of Georgia’s neighbouring countries they would like to visit and why.
We also asked whether they had previously travelled to any countries in the region, why they chose those destinations and what impressions they came away with.
The answers vary widely. Turkey is mentioned most often, with respondents drawn by its picturesque coastline and the Bosphorus. Many also say they would be happy to visit Armenia or Azerbaijan, while some look further afield and name more distant countries in the region.
Russia is rarely mentioned in a positive context. Instead, it is named by almost every respondent when asked which neighbouring country they would not like to visit.
Through this survey, we sought to find out how well people in Georgia know the countries of the South Caucasus and their other neighbours, what interests them about these countries and what stereotypes they hold about them.
