France’s new President to be known on May 7
On Sunday, May 7, the French electorate is going to finally decide on who will head the country-Emmanuel Macron or Marine Le Pen. The campaign period is over. May 6 is a ‘pre-election silence’ day, when campaigning is prohibited.
Last televised debates were held on Wednesday. According to the public opinion polls, Emmanuel Macron won the debates. He is still leading in the presidential race, having outrun Marine Le Pen by approximately 20%.
Being at the final stride of the presidential race, the contenders managed to exchange attacks. Marine Le Pen accused Macron of having an offshore account, while Macron reminded the electorate, that the prosecutor’s office was investigating possible funding of his rival’s campaign by Russia.
As a reminder, Le Pen supports France’s withdrawal from the European Union, while Macron is a ‘Euro-optimist’.
