11 000 stray animals have been neutered or put down in Armenia in 2017
Lilit Grigoryan, a spokesperson for the Unigraf-X Yerevan Office, reported that 3 144 stray animals have been neutered in Armenia in 2017, while 7 632 have been put to sleep to prevent the mass spread of infections.
As per the Yerevan Mayoral Office’s decision, the Unigraf-X organization has been allotted a 5 000 sq.m. land plot in the Yerebuni municipal administrative district where a special pet cemetery has been established. Unigraf-X is the only organization allowed to bury animals in that area.
According to Lilit Grigoryan, the Yerevan municipal authorities are taking measures to promptly detect contagious diseases among stray dogs.
As she reported, various diseases, including plague, could be observed in those animals. “Some of the diseases are incurable. In such cases, a stray animal has to be put to sleep. As for the rest of the animals, before being released, experts treat them for certain diseases. All animals are neutered and cleared of parasitic infections,” said Lilit Grigoryan.
