This time, Ukraine’s foreign ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi responded to Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, who had accused the Ukrainian government of “ingratitude”.
“Thank you to the Georgian authorities for everything — in particular, for not imposing sanctions on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine and for helping the joint aggressor to circumvent them, for steering the country away from the path of EU and NATO integration and towards Russian domination, and for the constant dismissive comments directed at Ukraine,” Tykhyi said.
Papuashvili’s earlier accusation was itself a response to comments made by Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, who had suggested in an interview that Mikheil Saakashvili — Georgia’s third president, currently serving a prison sentence — could potentially be transferred to Ukraine or to a third country.
“We are witnessing an unfriendly attitude that the Ukrainian authorities show towards the Georgian people. Above all, it is a display of great ingratitude. Unfortunately, the Zelensky government is marked by its ingratitude towards the Georgian people,” Papuashvili said.
