On 8 October Vladimir Putin celebrated his 65th birthday. Only 10 out of 200 head of states, mainly from UIS member states, congratulated the Russian leader. None of the G-20 leaders sent their congratulations.
Among those who ignored Putins’ birthday are many countries such as Venezuela, Cuba, Guinea and China that are described by the official Russian media as being Moscow’s allies.
Scandals accompanied the celebrations in Russia. For instance, the Zvezda TV-channel named Ramzan Kadyrov, the president of Chechnya, among the few foreign leaders who congratulated Putin. Also, a report from the Russia Today agency regarding a gigantic ‘Putinburger’ which was supposedly made in New York, turned out to be a fake.
