Ossetian Boxer Murat Gassiev defends IBF World Title
In the Quarter Finals of the World Boxing Super Series, Murat Gassiev beat the Pole, Krzystof Wlodarczk by knocking him out at the end of the second minute of the third round.
The fight between the two heavyweights took place on 21 October in the American city of Newark.
For Gassiev, this was his first time defending his IBF World Heavyweight Title, which he won last December in a fight against Russia’s Denis Lebedev.
Despite the fight taking place in the early hours of the morning (the fight started at 5:30am Moscow time), the doors of café Vincenzo in Tskhinvali were open to boxing fans as the café was broadcasting the fight. This was courtesy of Albert Valiev, the owner of the café, and head of the Boxing Federation of South Ossetia.
Following tradition, the Ossetian champion entered the ring to the song ‘In my chest beats the heart of an Ossetian’.
In his 24 years, he has had 24 professional fights in the ring, and 24 victories, 17 of which were early.
The next rival Gassiev will face in the World Boxing Super Series will be the Cuban Junier Dorticos.
