As The Guardian reported, the Norwegian government is seriously thinking of adjusting its borders. The matter concerns the HaltiMountthat lies on the border between the two counties. A considerable part of it lies on the territory of Finland, though the highest of its peaks, which is 1,365m. high, is within the Norwegian border. That’s the mountain that Norway is going to give to its neighbor as 100th birthday present.
To make such a gift, the Norwegians will have to shift their border by 40 meters. In this case, Norway will lose 0,015sq.km. of its territory. If Oslo decides on the aforesaid, this mountain will become Finland’s highest point. The idea to make such a gift to Finland was initiated on social media in 2015 and it is supported by the majority of Norwegians.
Norway has decided to make an unprecedented gift to Finland for 100th anniversary of the independence of the latter.
