Neymar deal sets record in football history
Barcelona striker Neymar has become the most expensive player in football history despite receiving opposition from La Liga.
Neymar was bought by PSG who offered him over EUR 40 million a year. To achieve this, PSG had to buy the player out from his present club, Barcelona, for EUR 222 million.
PSG was ready to pay, but the deal was opposed by the Spanish La Liga, which had to receive the payment and then hand it over to the club-seller. La Liga refused to accept the money, claiming that PSG was breaching the UEFA financial fair-play rules.
According to the rules, the club’s expenditures should not exceed it’s income by more than EUR 30 million.
Today Barcelona announced that PSG representatives visited their headquarters, and that the record-high sum was transferred directly to the club.
PSG is owned by investors from Qatar. The club`s ambitious goal for the 2017-2018 season is to win the Champions League.
